Main research question

The main objective of this project is to demonstrate that European protein sources can be used as feed ingredients for pig and poultry feeds and that this can lead to profitable production. This will be demonstrated by raising broilers and pigs on a soy free diet.

Research approach

Through a consultation process with feed manufacturers, feeds will be formulated using available and best suited European protein sources. The aim is to maintain production results. This soy-free diet will be fed to broiler chickens and pigs. The impact on business profitability and the environment is assessed.

Relevance/Valorization

Based on the project's results, the added value of European protein sources will be discussed in workshops with pig and poultry farmers. Crop farmers will also be informed about the most promising protein crops and the costs associated with their production.

In order to reach a wide audience (from farmer to consumer), the insights will be disseminated through the most appropriate communication channels.
