Main research questionWe target smart bulk storage of potato tubers. Smart storage means long-term storage with minimal losses by considering all influencing factors as much as possible. We do so by expanding our knowledge on the product, the storage facility, and the ventilation requirements.

CurieuzeNeuzen installs 500 sensors in potato fields
CurieuzeNeuzen in de Tuin, the largest ever citizen study in Flanders on heat and drought, is installing 500 smart sensors or "field daggers" in various potato fields across Flanders to gather information on the microclimate in our potato fields.

We focus on two crops: potatoes and maize. Our research on potato crops focuses on weed and disease detection (Alternaria Solani). For maize crops, we focus on weed detection right before the correction treatment.
Research projects
In the tree nursery, potato cultivation and outdoor vegetable cultivation, one has the most damage by plant parasitic nematodes (PPN). The researchers here focus on the first 2 sectors. The aim is to teach tree and potato growers to treat their soils more proactively, i.e. in the phase before visible damage occurs.
