General introduction

Many farmers want to work more sustainably, but lack a framework: what exactly is sustainability and how sustainable is your farm? DUVAKI focuses on broiler and pig farms and takes a broad view of sustainability: the environment and animal welfare, but also social aspects for the farmer and economic viability. The project aims to provide practical answers to these questions and translates the broad concept of 'sustainability' into useful choices on the farm. The goal: to help companies identify their strengths and weaknesses and make targeted improvements, without getting bogged down in fragmented information.

Research approach

DUVAKI is developing a sustainability scan that brings together all relevant aspects and results in a clear farm report. The scan is linked to a central website that bundles existing tools and information, so that farmers no longer have to search through fragmented sources. The report contains a comprehensive analysis of the farm itself, an anonymous comparison with other participants and/or sector targets, and concrete, farm-specific recommendations for each aspect. In addition, DUVAKI formulates general attention points and improvement paths for the broader sector. This creates a single, clear process of measurement, comparison, and targeted adjustment.

Relevance/Valorization

Individual farmers gain insight into their sustainability performance and where gains can be made, with practical tips tailored to their own farm. Anonymous benchmarking and reference to target values provide guidance for setting priorities. By bringing all the info and tools together in one place, DUVAKI makes it easier to take effective steps. The sector also benefits from shared focus areas and common paths for improvement.
