Drones can help potato growers detect alternaria quickly, according to Ruben van de Vijver of Flanders Research Institute for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (ILVO) during the Belgian potato trade show Interpom.
ILVO has been experimenting with detecting alternaria with sensors, drones and artificial intelligence for some time. "Through the drone we try to give the grower more information, a better overview," says the researcher. It won't ever get to the point where artificial intelligence can completely replace the grower's expertise, he added.
