Drones in agrofood: drone-based phenotyping for experimental fields
This workshop aims to inspire organizations from both the agricultural sector (seeds, agro-chemicals, biologicals, consultants, ... ) and drone sector with the aim to increase the knowledge and use of operational drone services for agricultural applications.Irene Borra-Serrano (ILVO) and Dries Raymaekers (VITO) will show you the possibilities of drone-base
Phenotyping crops in experimental fields is a great example of where drone technology can offer excellent value for the agricultural sector. Drones allow us to measure plant traits of interest in a scalable and objective way. But what is phenotyping exactly? What are the possibilities and limitations? And how can I get started?

Potatoes as viewed by the drone: the results
Every three days, a drone with a camera took images of the plants (and any weeds).
Research projects
Main research questionThe aim of DroneXperience is to set up 5 training courses within the theme of drones. Various partners work together on 5 themes: (1) drones for precision agriculture, (2) drones for construction, (3) drones for offshore, (4) construction and maintenance of drones and (5) drones and data protection.
Research projects
Therefore we aim to map the crop water status using remote sensing from drones and satellites, to better tune the irrigation scheduling to the crop water demand. In this way we want to increase the likelihood of stable harvests in a changing climate, which will also increase the financial resilience of local farms.
Research projects
In Spain, for example, an agricultural application is planned that will use 5G-connected drones to monitor agricultural crops. In Greece, an experiment is deploying eHealth robots to help rural elderly people as caregivers and companions. In the Scilly Isles in the UK, they are organizing a trial of balloons and drones to provide 5G coverage.

This project aims to do so by combining artificial intelligence (AI) with RGB and multispectral cameras and drones that map disease and weed levels in crops. This technology will enable the farmer or contractor to use the right products, at the right rate, in the right places, with efficient disease and weed control as a result. How does it work?
