In the world of agriculture, precision technology and high-tech applications are becoming more and more commonplace. The fishing industry is going through the same evolution: hardware, software and apps are being developed for use in catching, processing, on-board operations and marketing, which opens up a world of possibilities for fishermen and researchers.
No, not yet. What ILVO is already doing is using underwater cameras, for example to see how fishing gear behaves in the water and which fish are swimming around in wind farms. ILVO is developing its own drone expertise in agriculture, which will certainly have applications in marine research in the future. ILVO also works closely with VLIZ - the Flemish Institute of the Sea - which has a robotics center with underwater robots.
