One of three prestigious awards by the Flemish magazine DATA NEWS went to AVR CONNECT. AVR CONNECT is a project of AVR, a family owned company from Roeselare that specializes in agricultural machinery for potato cultivation.

Sensor technology

AVR coordinates the ICT-AGRI project Data Ecosystem Product Line, together with the Turkish GEOSYS GIS Ltd. and Flemish ILVO (Flanders Research Institute for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food). This project is funded in the Farm Management Systems for Precision Farming 2018. AVR CONNECT has been developed in the Framework of this ICT-AGRI project and is funded in Flanders by the Flemish funding agency Vlaio.

What is “smart” about AVR CONNECT? AVR CONNECT puts sensor technology on AVR machinery to gather field data, such as about the soil or potato size. Data are sent to the Microsoft Azure platform of AVR. This allows farmers to share their data with other stakeholders. And there is more coming: In a next step, using Smart analytics, farmers will be able to make better data driven management decisions to improve their growing processes and yields.

The DATA NEWS reward states: “AVR CONNECT is innovative, both in the use of technology as well as in the business approach. It is a technological innovation project that will achieve real added value thanks to clever use of digital technology. Technological innovation is important, but there is a clear impact on the business.”
