General introduction

Short-chain organic farms now have a written inspiration guide that gives them tips on labor-relieving collaborations. Such farms tend to grow many different products, requiring (excessive) labor. The research project ORSALISK aimed to see how mutual collaborations can be set up in a way that also fits the farm vision, and without hindering the continuity and stability of the farm. The project was supported by the EIP program, with funding from the Flemish Government and the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development.

Research approach

Action-oriented and participatory work was done together with five existing short-chain farms. The project consisted of both individual farm counseling (and the corresponding scientific observations related to it), and a learning network where participants could exchange and evaluate experiences with each other. In addition, the project participants were asked to share their knowledge with the rest of the (organic) farming sector.

Relevance/Valorization

The process and lessons learned from this project have been collected in a handy publication that contains concrete examples and inspiring tips to help other farms improve their collaboration.
