General Food innovations for healthcare get more joint support from Flanders and the Netherlands with Memorandum of Understanding

ILVO, as partner and co-founder of the Flemish NuHCaS partnership, consisting of Flanders'FOOD, ILVO, POM West Flanders, VIVES and TUA West, is delighted with the increased attention from the Flemish and Dutch governments. Within NuHCaS (Nutrition Health Care System) the partners work together to bring in optimizations and innovations in the triangle of care - nutrition research - mass catering sector. Each brings its own knowledge, experience and concerns.

Through the MoU, NuHCaS is committed to exchanging experience and expertise with Dutch partners. The subject is high on the agenda not only of the national governments, but also of the Province of West Flanders and the Euregio Scheldemond. There is a great willingness to cooperate.

There is an annual summit between Flanders and the Netherlands where the most important common dossiers are on the agenda. At the Flemish-Dutch summit on Jan. 31, 2023, among other things, enhanced cooperation on healthy food was agreed upon.

Piet Adema, Dutch Minister of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality, and Jo Brouns, Flemish Minister of Work, Economy, Innovation and Agriculture, signed a Memorandum of Understanding on structural cooperation in the field of nutrition and health as part of the Flemish-Dutch summit.

"Flanders and the Netherlands have agreed to cooperate structurally on food innovations, with a view to improving the health and well-being of citizens. The focus of this cooperation is on nutritional challenges in the healthcare sector," said Minister Brouns.
