In the Technology and Nutrition - AgriFood Technology department, the focus is on developing, testing and validating new technologies in agricultural, horticultural and fishery applications with the aim of making the agricultural sector more sustainable. The focus within this team is on digitalization. Indeed, the agricultural sector is bulging with data generated by all kinds of sensors, technologies, connected machines and data-driven applications. The useful use of this data and converting it into usable knowledge and information leads to better advice, less administration, efficiency gains, more climate-friendly production, more sustainable use of raw materials, support for the promotion of sustainable and healthy food for consumers, etc. Major benefits for farmers and horticulturists, but also for the many agri-food companies and consumers. ILVO is therefore strongly committed to the valorization of agro-food data through concrete advice and support to the entire sector, through applied demonstrations, through the expansion of the data-sharing platform DjustConnect and through data-driven research and innovation projects in Flanders and in Europe. All facets of digitization, data and data sharing are covered - from increasing involvement and adoption of farmers and horticulturists, to supporting companies in the development of their digital strategy, to future-oriented research on European agricultural dataspace.

The team that develops, coordinates and implements these projects is looking for an additional project support person. You will perform your job in close collaboration with the senior project managers and other team members. The person will initially start working on 2 ongoing projects. On the one hand ICT-AGRI-FOOD (https://www.ictagrifood.eu/), a European research and innovation program focusing on the integration of information and communication technology (ICT) in the agriculture and food sector. And on the other hand, FoodDataQuest (link), a research project on data-driven innovation around the future of food, healthier communities and a healthier planet. Both projects include both coordination and research tasks. Good collaboration skills are a necessity, but you are also expected to complete tasks independently. Variety is guaranteed. Within each project, tasks and responsibilities are divided according to experience, talent, motivation and feasibility. This gives you opportunities to use and further develop your competencies, but also to develop new talents. Besides the specific tasks, you will also actively contribute to the progress of an entire project. Within the framework of the projects, workshops and events are regularly organized, where you help with the preparation and smooth running of them, including communication. You will initiate discussions with international partners, companies, farmers and other knowledge institutions to work out digital pathways together. This position will require occasional business travel.
