Your capabilities

  • You have a master's degree,In a major in sociology, bioengineering, biology, educational sciences . Candidates with lower degree who have experience in the position can also participate or students graduating in 2024 can also apply.   • You are interested in (European) research and like to build a European network
  • You have (basic) knowledge of statistics
  • You have interest in or knowledge of conducting surveys, interviews, focus groups, etc.
  • You have experience with reporting (research) results to different stakeholders
  • You speak and write English fluently

Personal competences

  • You have a critical and analytical mind and can easily integrate information
  • You are sociable and can communicate clearly with different audiences.
  • You work accurately, planned and well organized.

Plus points

  • You have knowledge of or interest in sustainable soil management and agriculture
  • You have experience with qualitative and/or quantitative research techniques
  • You have experience with European research
  • You speak and write Dutch fluently.

We offer

We offer you an open-ended contract (min. funding for one year) with a competitive salary based on your degree. You will be recruited in salary scale A165 or A166 (depending on your diploma). You can make a gross and net calculation of your monthly salary, vacation pay and end-of-year bonus yourself via Salarissimulator | Vlaanderen.be (please note, do not use the new salary simulator). Relevant experience can be taken into account as monetary seniority.

The European Commission has made sustainable soil management one of its 5 major missions. One of the objectives is to set up 100 innovation tracks (living labs) across Europe by 2030. These innovation tracks bring together various actors in a local context to tackle specific soil-related challenges. As a project officer, you will be involved in the European project SOILL. SOILL | Support Structure for Soil Health Living Labs and Lighthouses (soill2030.eu) This project aims to support these 100 innovation tracks. For this purpose, an online platform will be set up and numerous knowledge exchange activities and trainings will be organized. You will be responsible for monitoring and evaluating these innovation pathways on a regular basis. This includes the following research tasks:

  • Sending out a survey (self-assessment) every six months to chart the progress of participating innovation paths.
  • Annual interviews with the coordinators of the innovation tracks to deepen the results of the survey.
  • Reporting to the living labs, project partners and European Commission to provide targeted support ifv the results from the surveys and interviews.

Besides these research tasks you will also be involved in the communication from the project to inform stakeholders about the ongoing innovation trajectories and their impact.

You will join the Agriculture and Society unit, a young dynamic group of about 60 researchers with very diverse profiles and training. The Agriculture and Society Unit conducts social science research on relevant topics for the agricultural, food and rural sectors, with the aim of contributing to environmental sustainability, profitability and social well-being for farmers, companies from related sectors and rural residents and consumers.
