Plastic pollution in the Belgian North Sea: no alarming amounts of microplastics in fish and shellfish, plastic fibers everywhere and a hotspot near Zeebrugge

At the end of the MarinePlastics project, ILVO and KBIN present new and important facts about plastic pollution in the Belgian part of the North Sea. These findings have led to clear and concrete recommendations for the management and reduction of plastic pollution.

Climate scenarios show that both the amount of precipitation and the number of days with precipitation in summer will decrease. In addition, extreme peak rainfall events will also occur more often. The need for smart agricultural water management will therefore only become more acute.
