Where do Belgian commercial fishermen fish? What species do they catch and how much? What is the state of fish stocks in those places, and how exactly is that calculated? When can we speak of a sustainably fished stock?

There, the biological state of the various fish stocks is determined by means of a number of complex calculations.A science-based recommendation is thus formulated on the basis of these fish stock estimates.

Variation in raw and cooked ham quality of pigs in Flanders: insight into the contribution of genetics and the potential of a minimal invasive measurement technique

Main research questionThe aim of this project was to get insight in the meat quality variation of sire and sow lines that currently form the genetic basis of our Flemish fattening pigs. The unique aspect of this project was that the meat quality was determined on both fresh meat and high-quality cooked ham.

At the end of the MarinePlastics project, ILVO and KBIN present new and important facts about plastic pollution in the Belgian part of the North Sea. These findings have led to clear and concrete recommendations for the management and reduction of plastic pollution.
