Ecosystem based management for sustainable fisheries and healthy marine ecosystems

Main research questionThe ECOSCOPE project aims at improved fisheries management that balances a healthy marine ecosystem with sustainable fisheries. This requires a lot of diverse, accurate and up-to-date data that can be interpreted in a clear way by fishermen.

Effects of aggregate extraction on the sea floor and the marine benthic life

We investigate to which extent the extraction of sand and other aggregates have an impact on the benthic ecosystem in and around the four current concession areas as compared with a few reference zones.Relevance/ValorizationCurrently, circa 2 million m³ of marine aggregates are yearly extracted from the BPNS.
