Field beans in dairy cattle farming: toasting (for) success?
Field beans are an interesting alternative for imported soy in dairy production, but only if the beans are first heated. Those are the results from the ILVO-study within the EKOPTI project. Heating is required for good digestion and also helps in storage.

We are looking for the necessary intermediaries to get from the primary raw material to a marketable product in the local chain in and around Leuven. The MELKBOON project researches and demonstrates this for the dairy sector, in order to eventually achieve a reduced carbon footprint at farm level. Imported soy aggravates that footprint.
